The Scientific Committee of Malta Sugar & Salt Reduction Strategies and the International Association of Stevia want to highlight strategies for the prevention of sugar-related chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular diseases and ageing of population.
The idea is to link prevention strategies to strategies of innovation "vanguard" and chose original and natural ingredient to replace and reduce sugar, why Scientific Committee selected Stevia as an example.
In 2009, France authorized the use of Stevia in Agro-Food Industry. This plant, native of South America, makes a lot of noise for its exoticism but also for its sweetness associated with high levels of antioxidants.
The Scientific Committee of Malta Sugar & Salt Reduction Strategies has decided to bring together various experts (researchers and industrials) to issue an opinion on impact of Stevia’s consumption on health and in order to debate on the latest advances and opportunities of Stevia application in Health.
