Assessment of EU nutrition policy
Various EU Member States, DG Sanco and WHO Europe have the task of assessing or reporting on the progress of nutrition policy. The event provides an excellent opportunity to exchange experience in the field and to lay the groundwork for a future policy.
Various EU Member States, DG Sanco and WHO Europe have the task of assessing or reporting on the progress of nutrition policy. The event provides an excellent opportunity to exchange experience in the field and to lay the groundwork for a future policy.
At the event various Member States (Belgium, Germany, France, Portugal and Slovenia) will report with evaluations of their nutrition policies. DG Sanco and WHO Europa will also report on the EU Strategy for Europe on nutrition, Overweight and obesity related health issues and the WHO 2nd Action Plan on food and nutrition policies. There will also be assessments of the progress made and of the gaps that exist in various areas. Consideration will also be given to the methodology used in making the assessments.
In Belgium a National Nutrition and Health Plan was launched in April 2006, and will end in 2010 (NVGP-1). A follow-up is planned for the period 2011 to 2015 (NVGP-2). As part of the European Presidency, a review will be carried out of the activities undertaken and a vision drawn up for the future policy plan.
